In this verse, God says that Israel’s enemies in the Promised Land have a rap sheet a mile long…but as a way of summarizing their depravity, He singles out the sin of child sacrifice.
This, then, is the sentence He pronounces on them:
[Deu 20:16 KJV] 16 But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee [for] an inheritance, thou shalt SAVE ALIVE NOTHING THAT BREATHETH:
Yes, we can argue with God’s sentence, or His very existence, until the cows come home…or we can be soberly warned about the fate of a culture that practices child sacrifice.
